Packed and
Ready To Go?
“Be
prepared,” is the Boys Scout motto. Moreover, it is a good
motto for you, the new father. The nursery is complete; the
living area is clean as can be. What else do you need? Plan
for tomorrow, for tomorrow will surely come sooner than you can
imagine.
Mom
is not the only one that is going to spending hours or days in
the hospital. Make a list of all the things the two of you will
need. Some of the best-laid plans leave out the simplest
items. Not tooth brushes, or clean underwear; but, cameras!
Too often couples show up at the Labor and Delivery department
all ready, with nothing to record the event with.
Have
your cameras ready, new batters, extra film, video cameras
charge and packed. (Just to mention few of the common mistakes
dads often make.) Nurses can do a lot for you before, during
and after the delivery; yet, not one has yet mastered all of the
different types, kinds, makes and models of cameras that people
bring for the big day. Digital cameras, very complicated
auto/manual adjust cameras, camcorders; lights, camera,
“Action.” It is a major production. At some point in time, you
will ask the nurse, “Would you take a picture of us, all three
of us together.” So, keep it simple, (KISS.) Sure, bring your
entire camera collection, and click away. In addition, I
suggest, you pack two simple, disposable cameras. But, before
you pack them away; on a clean sheet of paper, using a good size
magic marker, print your name, address and telephone number and
take the first shot of it with each of the two cameras. If your
film were misplaced, during the “one-hour processing,” you will
have a very good chance of having them returned to you. No way
can you replace all of those pictures. The day after delivery
mom will be asking all kinds of question. “Then what happened?”
And, “What did the baby look like then?” Whatever the subject,
you will have the complete history in pictures ready to answer
all her questions. |
